Eye Study

After several months of feeling blue, I stumbled upon an interesting how-to watercolor tutorial. The goal of the tutorial was to teach us how to render a watercolor painting of a realistic eyeball. To get started, I decided to paint my eye instead of the beautiful model in the tutorial. After several pathetic attempts, I finalized the first project feeling accomplished and so much better about myself. It was therapeutic indeed!

In the following months during the summer of 2021, I curated close-up eye pictures of family and friends. I definitely appreciated their willingness to let me take a close-up shot — with the flash on!

As each painting has come to life, my friends have become less cartoon-looking and more realistic. I now have a collection of eyeballs from some amazing individuals, all of whom are inspiring to me in one way or another. I love referring to the paintings to remind myself of each person’s wisdom and good vibes! Makes me smile!
