Asters at sunset in Arches National Park

Last summer as I prepared for a girls painting party, I thought it’d be fun to do something by Van Gogh. I reviewed several tutorials on “starry night” and then decided it’d require too much concentration for a proper fun paint party. After all, gab time is the most important thing during our parties, since we rarely see each other anymore!

Months later, we booked a girls-only trip to Vegas, to see the “Immersive Van Gogh” show. In prep, I followed along with #theartsherpa to get into the groove for “Starry Night” and “Sunflowers.” She kept saying we’d each get our own style. (I liked her message; very honorable)…Hm. Seems like my style is that of a third-grader. But, viewing her youtube tutorials was time well spent on cold January nights.

Just a couple days before our Vegas trip, still inspired and seeking more info on Van Gogh, I decided to summon the Van Gogh gods and just go paint…I turned off youtube, turned on some French café music, and dug-up a couple fav pics from our recent camping trip to Utah’s Might 5! Utah has some of the best camping, best star gazing, and best sunsets I’ve ever experienced.

So, here is my third-grader-style in acrylic: “Asters at sunset in Arches National Park.” 🙂

BTW: If you have a chance to see the Immersive Van Gogh show, please do so! I wasn’t expecting to be so moved by it, but it was spectacular. Not only do we get to see this master’s art in a new way, the solemn music almost speaks to his unsung life. Very powerful! Cheers.
