Trapped in the Blue Mountains, NSW Australia

((Note-it’s the morning of April 7th here))

Ok, this is the first extended vacation we’ve had since we got slammed by hurricane Ian.. blogging seems like an idea…

Let’s start from the beginning

Our journey began as most do, with excited anticipation — a weeklong camp experience in NSW before we venture on an 18 day cruise back across the pacific…well—that was the plan

We crashed for a night near the airport then picked up the van ..as we were driving to the first campground in the Blue Mountains, I got a cancellation notice..something about a fire ban..I mean, wtf..

so we stopped at the first park visitor center and the chatty dude recommended that we head to the Old Ford Reserve—his favorite free camp spot..we thought nothing of the rain, or the few one-lane spots on the way down the mountain

It rained, poured actually, but we were dry and warm in our little van.

In the morning, as we were attempting to leave, we learned that the only road in/out had washed out so now we’re stuck here…until SES figures out how to evacuate us..

Sounds like options are: bush walk out (currently deemed unsafe), helicopter out (and we’ll have to leave the van here), or maybe in a few days (if we’re lucky) we can drive out (I don’t think our 2WD, top heavy van will make it, sorry for being pessimistic)

Here is a little more information about the situation

Meanwhile..we’ve seen some cool wildlife and like-minded folks..love the Aussie people already …

We have very little food left but one of the locals brought us homemade focaccia bread..today we may walk to a nearby winery, that has a wedding party stranded there…hope it’s open on a Sunday

Hoping we get good news later today…or at least hoping I get a pic of a kangaroo!! (How many times can I say “hope” in one post?!)

if you’re reading this, send us good vibes…cos we need it

Making Bday card for our stranded camping neighbor
