March: Awaken

For me, March has momentum. It’s not quite spring in bloom, but it’s clearly getting ready. There’s movement everywhere—longer days, quickening weather, small signs of life insisting on being seen. March carries a subtle restlessness: trade winds shift, greens intensify, and the light is more purposeful. This month’s inspiration centers on something a little wild.

Shaping the Art

For the March piece, I focused on embroidered yellows and greens—bold and fresh, daffodil tones that feel both hopeful and powerful. I kept the palette lively, pairing the flowers with silver and blue background, allowing the piece to feel fully awake. The embroidery itself is deliberately textural: leaves are built with a switchback weave, the stems with a double-chain or stem stitch, and one flower and its buds formed using a cast-on net. The second flower returns to a switchback weave, letting the stitches create subtle movement and dimension across the surface.

Closing Reflection

March reminds me that growth is not always gentle. There’s a bravery in pushing upward, in taking space, and in responding to the light when it finally arrives. Working with daffodils this month felt like an invitation to trust that readiness doesn’t mean perfection.
