A Voggy Morning to You

For the last several months, we’ve had hundreds of earthquakes (mostly small and not noticeable) so it wasn’t really surprising that Kilauea erupted earlier this week. While the eruption lasted only 12 hours (from approximately 12:30 a.m. HST on Monday, June 3, until approximately 9:00 a.m. HST on June 3), three days later we are still experiencing vog. Here in North Kona, Hualālai generally protects us from big winds and although we’re in a lower-risk lava zone, volcanic eruptions, both big and small, produce some level of vog across the entire island.

So, I’m sharing a couple shots, in memory of a scratchy throat and the eerie voggy skies.

Morning

On our morning walks, we can usually see the blue ocean in the distance, but not so much when vog is in town…on the other hand, the honey bees are busy at work on the dragon fruit blossom–vog doesn’t appear to affect them at all.

Evening

Another fine ending to another day in paradise.
