Although I love the beaches of Hawaii, sometimes it’s so nice to find respite in a mountain forest. Just 15 minutes from my house, about mid-way up Hualālai, this little slice of heaven transports me to “Narnia.” This is a protected forest where you can find endangered trees and birds. Then, after the peaceful 4-mile hike, just a couple miles down the mountain, I always stop at the beautiful headquarters of Mountain Thunder Coffee to pick up some coffee treats and savor free coffee samples. They also have free tours every 30 minutes, where they discuss Kona coffee production process. I’ve seen it a couple times, and it’s worth it!
