November is a month of anticipation. As the year draws to a close, here in Western Washington, deciduous trees have shed their leaves, revealing branches and underlying forms, while evergreens keep the landscape green. Shorter days and changing conditions mark the transition toward winter, reminding us that change brings both preparation and new possibilities.

Shaping the November Art Piece
The background combines soft washes of pink and muted gold with loosely drawn geometric shapes, creating a layered pattern that echoes the square mosaic woven from strips of paper at the lower left. The warm, subdued palette evokes fading autumn light, while the overlapping shapes bring movement and variation to the composition.
Two chrysanthemum forms offer a contrast in texture and technique. One is outlined in golden thread with a simple backstitch that trace individual petals; the other is densely embroidered in woven stitches, creating a fuller, more dimensional golden bloom. A slender green stem worked in double chain stitch connects the flowers, while a textured leaf in deep sap green using wave stitch adds weight and contrast. The woven paper mosaic introduces another kind of repetition, with irregular strips crossing to form a structure that is both ordered and imperfect.
Together, the stitched flowers, woven paper, and layered background explore how repeated marks and small details can build complexity, texture, and continuity.

Closing Reflection
Despite the approach of short days and misty cold winds, November brings sweet anticipation. The square mosaic and three-dimensional florets reveal how structure and repetition build something meaningful. As the year draws to a close and the holiday season approaches, the changing landscape reminds us that life moves through cycles of change, each bringing new possibilities.
